Does the Council provide bids or contracts for certified MBEs?
The Council provides notification of bids or contracts and provides access to buying personnel as well as technical assistance and training on how to bid. The Council also assists you with developing long term and vital relationships needed to sustain your business growth. Periodically, the Council itself has opportunities for MBEs to directly provide products and services. We also advocate and provide referrals to MBEs as they become available.
How long does it take to get certified?
The certification process can take up to forty-five (45) days, depending on the completeness of the application and accompanying supporting documents. We attempt to process applications in 30 day cycles. The council has up to ninety 90 days to complete a certification, but that is not the norm. Again, the actual time depends on the completeness of the application and supporting documents.
How long is the certification good for?
Certification is good for one (1) year. However, our new process dictates that local Arizona based MBEs be certified from January through December of each year. So if you are Arizona based applicant, your fees are prorated according to the scale below. Each year the MBE completes a simple two (2) page recertification application and submits it along with its most recent taxes. The recertification application indicates that no changes have occurred with the ownership, control and management of the firm. If changes have occurred, then the applicant must provide documentation of the changes. Failure to do so, may result in immediate decertification.
Why is a birth certificate or U.S. Passport required for certification?
A birth certificate or U.S. Passport is required to support either ethnic background or U.S. citizenship
